2010 Community Sommerfest in Bayswater
The weather was perfect, sunny and warm enough to seek the shade of the trees. You would have been hard-pressed to pick a better day for a picnic. A sign of us getting older was that there were many new faces and we could pass through the crowd with only the occasional "achlan u sachlan".
We came too late for the traditional Sommerfest Service, which was given by Mark Herrmann (see ARCHIVES 2010) supported by the Templer Choir with selected songs, including of course, the traditional "Geh aus mein Herz und suche Freud...". On show in the Community Chapel was the Templer Journey Tapestry, back from its exhibition at the Knox Civic Centre.
To me there seemed to be less activity in the Bayswater Hall than usual, with only a couple of corner displays active. The Community Room was filled with all sorts of books to buy, neatly organised in library categories for ease of browsing, and a Computer Room on the landing.
Outside, the Drinks and Icecream tent did brisk business and the Playgroup area was active with Spin and Face Painting - Board and Ball Games. The Animal on the Move enclosure was popular, as was the newly introduced motorbike-ride section. Again, to me, the Festwiese seemed less crowded than in the past. The tractor Hayrides were (as they usually are) a great attraction for young and old.
We stayed for a while, and a cross-section of the snapshots we took in that time is shown below.
